1980's Movie about 2 Kids, Spaceship, TV watching aliens?

The aliens are asking the kids all kinds of questions about earth and why humans do things. The spaceship is red and is round. One of them builds it, his parents fight a lot, when his friend comes over they somehow activate it. Then it takes off and there gone.
