Can Audacity (music editing program) be trusted?

I want to download a music editing program, and I know that Audacity is free because I have downloaded it before. The thing is though, all of those computers have crashed- but do to various reasons therefore it cant be linked to the program. Basically I am just wondering if there is a chance that the program might be tainted.
