How do I ask my friend if he wants to date?

I have a guy friend who has taken me out to dinner, to coffee, we've walked around the waterfront, etc, just the two of us. We text every day, and hang out a lot. But the thing is, I'm not sure if it's platonic or romantic. He hangs out alone with other girls alone, but I haven't hear of him taking any of them out to dinner. Yet, he hasn't tried anything, except hug me. I really like this guy. How do I nonchalantly ask him if this is romantic or not?
