How do they num you for having your four wisdom teeth removed?

I'm so scared especially of shots...so bad. Walking into the room seeing sterile cold things and an empty table/chair waiting open for me. Even though I'm 17 with things like this I really start crying, I feel so stupid but even more scared. If they do give me a shot, if I ask will they let me breath that stuff first so I don't feel it?
